Throughout the course, you will study a broad range of topics including health, safety and security, communication, professional practice and problem-solving. As you progress, you will build your understanding of anatomy and physiology, infection prevention and control, psychology, sociology and nutrition, developing the knowledge needed for a variety of health and social care careers.
Practical experience is at the heart of the course. You will benefit from valuable industry work placements in a range of health and social care settings, giving you the opportunity to apply your learning, develop confidence and gain first-hand experience of working with service users and professionals. These placements will help you explore different career pathways while preparing you for the world of work.
At Level 2, you will build a strong foundation by studying topics including equality, diversity and inclusion, human growth and development, safeguarding, communication, dementia awareness and end-of-life care, providing the knowledge and skills needed to progress to Level 3.
At Level 3, you will study the Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care Diploma, based on the Lead Adult Care Worker occupational standards. This qualification develops the practical skills, knowledge and professional behaviours employers are looking for, preparing you for employment within the adult social care sector while also providing excellent progression opportunities.
On successful completion of the course, you could progress to higher education in subjects such as nursing, social work, psychology, counselling or health studies, begin an apprenticeship, or move directly into employment within a wide range of health and social care settings.
