What are Adult Apprenticeships?

Adult Apprenticeships are a great option for anyone looking to change careers, develop new skills, or progress in their current role while continuing to work. Whether you're taking your first step into a new industry or building on existing experience, an apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage while gaining valuable workplace experience and a nationally recognised qualification. There is no upper age limit for apprenticeships, making them an excellent choice at any stage of your career. With programmes available from Intermediate through to Higher Apprenticeships, you can study at a level that's right for you without reducing your working hours, helping you achieve your career goals while balancing your existing commitments.

Am I too old to start an apprenticeship?

Not at all. Apprenticeships are available to anyone aged 16 or over, and many apprentices are adults who are changing careers, returning to work or developing new skills. There is no upper age limit. Apprenticeships are open to learners of all ages, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid job where you gain industry experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. You'll spend most of your time in the workplace, with dedicated time for learning and training.

Do I need to already have a job?

Not always. Some learners apply for apprenticeship vacancies with employers, while others are already employed and complete an apprenticeships with their current employer. Our team can help you explore both options.

Will I get paid?

Yes. Apprentices are employees and receive a salary from their employer. Your pay will depend on your age, experience and employer, but it must meet at least the legal minimum for apprentices.

How long does an apprenticeship take?

Most apprenticeships take between 12 and 36 months to complete, depending on the level and job role.

How much time will I spend learning?

You'll spend most of your time with your employer and complete regular off-the-job training as part of your apprenticeship. This could include college attendance, online learning, workshops or workplace training.
