The course is available to employed staff and volunteers (minimum one full day per week) and is internally verified by East Coast College and externally verified by NCF. The Level 3 Diploma for Working in the Early Years Sector is a fully accredited qualification that provides you with a licence to practise, enabling you to work with children from birth to five years old and develop knowledge of children aged five to seven years.

Delivered remotely over 18 months, the course combines online learning through an e-portfolio and Microsoft Teams sessions with assessor support and workplace observations to build evidence of your professional practice. You will complete 10 mandatory units covering areas such as children's health and wellbeing, legislation, professional practice, play, development and school readiness.

This qualification is suitable for early years practitioners working in day nurseries, nursery schools, reception classes and pre-school settings. With flexible learning, one-to-one assessor support and no need to attend college, it is designed to fit around your work commitments.

Course Information

You will be required to complete a pre-enrolment written assessment of a piece of coursework.

You will be continually assessed throughout your programme. There are no exams.

On completion of the Level 3 Diploma for Working in the Early Years Sector, you can progress into a range of early years roles, including Early Years Practitioner, Nursery Practitioner or other childcare positions. The qualification can also support progression to higher-level study, such as Level 4 and Level 5 early years qualifications, or further professional development within the early years sector.

The Level 3 Diploma for Working in the Early Years Sector includes 10 mandatory modules designed to develop your knowledge and skills in key areas of early years practice. These cover children's health and wellbeing, legislation and safeguarding, professional practice, child development, play and learning, and supporting children's school readiness. The modules combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, helping you develop the skills needed to support children's learning, development and care.
