Please note, this course is only accepting applications from learners aged 16 - 18, as well as those up to the age of 25 who hold a current EHCP.

This course offers an excellent opportunity to gain the specialist skills, training and industry knowledge needed for a rewarding career in TV, film and media make-up.

You will develop practical skills in professional make-up and character creation techniques, including airbrushing, prosthetics, hair styling, bald caps, ageing effects, body painting and sustainable make-up practices using vegan-friendly products and upcycled costumes and wigs.

Alongside your studies, you will benefit from industry experiences, workshops and creative projects, including visits to Brighton Film School, West End productions and opportunities to gain work experience in film, television and live events.

Our experienced teaching team works with industry professionals, including internationally recognised make-up artists, ensuring your training is current, creative and aligned with professional expectations. You will build the confidence, technical skills and professional approach needed to progress within the demanding TV and film make-up industry.

Course Information

For Level 2 entry, you will need to have achieved at least three GCSEs at grade 3 or above. GCSE Art would be an advantage or a keen interest in creative applications.

Level 3 entry is through previous attainment of Media Make-Up Artistry or Beauty Therapy Level 2 and/or a successful skill test interview.

There is continuous assessment of each unit. You present evidence of competence via practical assessments and production of a personal portfolio of evidence.

The freelance nature of the profession means that you may move between trainee make-up assistant, make-up artist, chief/key make-up artist and designer roles, depending on your experience and confidence within the sector.

Develop specialist skills in TV, film and media make-up through practical training in professional techniques, including character creation, prosthetics, airbrushing, hair styling, ageing effects and sustainable make-up practices. Gain valuable industry insight through workshops, creative projects and professional experiences, while building the confidence, technical ability and creative skills needed for a career in the screen and live events industries.

You will need to organise models for your practical Hairdressing & Media Makeup Artistry sessions including Body Art Models and also participate as a model for Body Art & makeup sessions, which supports and contributes to all your practice and also assessments. You will need to be organise for each of your sessions bringing in your full Hairdressing & Makeup kit. Wear the required black uniform for each of your practical sessions.
