Free if under £25,000 a year or in receipt of UC/pension (3 x pay slips or evidence of 3 months of UC is required). If you are not eligible, the course fee is £1080.

Begin your journey into the vibrant world of floristry with the City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry. This practical, industry-focused qualification is ideal for learners who want to develop professional floristry skills, explore creative design techniques, and gain an understanding of how modern floristry businesses operate.

Throughout the course, students will develop their knowledge of a wide range of flowers and plants, including how to care for, handle, and maintain them to professional standards. They will learn about the tools, materials, and environmental conditions required to produce high-quality floral designs, while developing essential techniques for creating a variety of products, from bouquets to event arrangements.

Learners will explore key principles of floristry design, including colour, composition, and presentation, while building the practical skills needed to create professional floral work. The course also supports the development of customer service and communication skills, helping students understand how to meet client expectations and work effectively within a commercial environment.

Students will gain insight into the day-to-day operation of floristry businesses, including workflow, presentation standards, and the finishing details that help create outstanding floral designs. As part of the course, learners will complete 150 hours of industry work experience, providing valuable real-world experience and helping to build confidence and employability.

Throughout the qualification, students will create a digital or physical portfolio showcasing their practical work, design development, and progress. Assessment includes a written examination, a synoptic practical assessment, and a Health & Safety examination for land-based industries.

This course is ideal for creative and enthusiastic individuals who want to develop professional floristry skills and pursue a career in the industry. It provides a pathway to further study at Level 3 or progression into roles such as florist, floral designer, event florist, or garden centre assistant.

Course Information


Applicants should have at least Level 1 English, preferably with a Grade 3 or above at GCSE. A basic understanding of computer software, including programmes such as Microsoft Word and OneDrive, is required. Work experience is a mandatory part of the course, and students must be able to arrange and travel to their placement.


Formative assessment will take place throughout the course with a final portfolio of evidence produced at the end alongside examination.
