This Level 2 unit is designed for those who wish to develop an understanding of autism and how to support autistic individuals in an inclusive and person-centred way. It provides an overview of autism, including its characteristics, diagnosis, and the impact it may have on communication, behaviour, sensory experiences, and daily life.

The unit also explores common misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding autism, helping learners develop a more accurate understanding of the diverse experiences of autistic individuals. Learners will gain awareness of approaches that promote acceptance, inclusion, and effective support.

Course Information

Entry requirements

There are no specific learning requirements. You will require appropriate level of literacy and willingness to complete the assessment criteria within the workshop.

Assessment

This is a knowledge-only qualification assessed through a workbook. There will be a short activity to complete prior to the delivery session.

Progression

This qualification supports progression to employment in healthcare, social care, education, and other sectors. It also enables you to advance to other related courses including a full Level 2 in Understanding Autism.

Modules

In this unit, you will study the key principles of autism, including its characteristics, diagnosis, and the different ways it can affect individuals. You will explore common misconceptions, understand the importance of recognising individual needs, and learn how to provide appropriate, inclusive support for autistic individuals.
