FdA Early Years and Childhood Studies is an exciting programme aimed at those working, or wishing to work, with children aged 0-11 years. Links between theory and practice will be explored as well as the key issues that impact children's development. The changing view of childhood will also be studied as well as the implications of safeguarding for children and practitioners. Applications are welcome from those working within the childcare sector and from those who may not have childcare experience but wish to enter this field. Employment or a voluntary placement is required.

Whilst this is a full-time course, typically this course generally only requires 1-2 days on campus attendance, supported by self-directed study. This means you can continue to work alongside your studies and balance other commitments.

Course Information

Please be aware that the relevant employment or voluntary placement may require some form of DBS check. You will need to arrange this directly with the placement provider, and cover any costs involved.

You will need to have achieved 80 UCAS tariff points (or above) or an Access to HE Diploma

All applicants are required to hold GCSE English and maths at Grade C/4 or above.

Applicants who do not hold these qualifications may be considered on an individual basis based upon their overall application and the course applied for.

Relevant employment or voluntary placement for the duration of the course (if working in the early years, must have appropriate level 3 Early Years Educator Award).

On successful completion of the course, graduates can move on to an appropriate progression route such as the BA (Hons) Early Years and Childhood Studies or BA (Hons) Applied Care Practice (Children and Families)
