The BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology is designed to help you develop an understanding of the theories that inform care and education service provision and will enhance your practice and career progression. The course is aimed at those with an interest in human development and behaviour, and who may be working in settings where they support children and/or adults.

You will learn to investigate questions, explore contemporary issues centred on people's lives, and acquire the skills necessary to apply theory and research to the real world, giving you the context needed to put your skills to use in the workplace.

Whilst this is a full-time course, typically this course generally only requires 1-2 days on campus attendance, supported by self-directed study. This means you can continue to work alongside your studies and balance other commitments.

Course Information

Please note that you will require a placement in Level 5 which you will need to source independent of the college. Please be aware that depending on the organisation you may require some form of DBS check. You will need to arrange this directly with the placement provider, and cover any costs involved.

You will need to have achieved 112 UCAS tariff points (or above) or an Access to HE Diploma

All applicants are required to hold GCSE English and maths at Grade C/4 or above.

Applicants who do not hold these qualifications may be considered on an individual basis based upon their overall application and the course applied for.

There are many opportunities open to psychology degree holders, including and not limited to:

  • Psychologist
  • Psychotherapist
  • Social Worker
  • Counsellor
  • Educational Psychologist
  • Human Resource Manager
  • Teacher
  • Research roles
  • Media roles

Although some of these roles will be available to you with a psychology undergraduate degree, many require further study at postgraduate level. Some professional training e.g. Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology has a mandatory entry requirement for graduate based chartership of the British Psychological Society, which your degree, when successfully completed, would confer.
