Whether you dream of working with pets, wildlife or exotic species, this exciting, hands-on course will give you the knowledge, skills and practical experience to take your first step. You'll build a strong understanding of animal health, welfare, nutrition, behaviour and animal science, while exploring some of the biggest challenges facing the natural world today, including climate change, biodiversity loss and habitat conservation. You'll also discover how animal health, husbandry and welfare and are closely connected, preparing you for the future of the animal care industry. Learning goes far beyond the classrom. Working alongside experienced industry professionals, including a qualified veterinary nurse, physiotherapist, behaviourist and zoo keeper you'll gain valuable practical experience caring for a wide variety of animals in our specialist facilities. From rabbits, guinea pigs and degus to reptiles including leopard geckos, bearded dragons and snakes, every day offers new opportunities to develop your confidence and practical skills. You'll also gain invaluable experience through work placements with local employers, helping you build professional networks and develop the skills employers are looking for. Previous students have completed placements with organisations including Africa Alive, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, local veterinary practices and animal rescue centres. As your confidence grows, so do your opportunities. You'll be well prepared for progression to higher education (either with us or elsewhere) or begin a career in animal care, conservation, or wildlife management. You may even have the chance to take part in unforgettable enrichment experiences, such as our previous two week conservation trip to South Africa, where students contributed to wildlife monitoring and animal management on game reserves.
