Overview

Our Plumbing and Heating Engineering course provides students with the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to begin a career in the plumbing and heating industry. Combining classroom learning with hands-on workshop experience, the course covers domestic plumbing systems, heating installations, hot and cold water systems, sanitation, electrical systems, boilers, advanced heating technologies and sustainable solutions such as heat pumps. Students develop their confidence by completing practical projects designed around industry requirements.

Designed for learners looking to progress into skilled employment, apprenticeships or further training, the course helps prepare students for a range of careers including plumber, renewable energy engineer and heating engineer. Plumbing & Heating Engineering FAQs


You will study a mixture of practical and theory-based topics, including domestic plumbing systems, central heating, boilers, unvented hot water systems, sanitation, electrical systems, and sustainable heating technologies such as heat pumps.


Students are expected to wear suitable work clothing and safety equipment during practical sessions. This may include protective footwear and appropriate clothing for workshop activities. Further details about required uniform and equipment will be provided by the college when you enrol.


Assessment is mainly completed through practical workshop tasks, allowing students to demonstrate their developing plumbing and heating skills.


After completing the course, students can progress into apprenticeships or employment opportunities such as plumber, renewable energy engineer, gas and oil engineer, or continue developing their skills through further training.
